How to play Farflung
Farflung is a free daily geography game for iPhone. Each day has five prompts, and you answer each by pinning one country on an unlabelled map. The rarer your right answer, the further you travel.

Read the prompt
Each prompt has several right countries, such as "Pin a country with a Mediterranean coast".
Pin one country
Tap the unlabelled map to place your pin. Zoom in for small places.
Drop the pin
Press Drop Pin when you're ready. There's no clock, and you can move the pin until then.
See how far it took you
Right answers earn 40 to 100 km. The fewer people would think of your answer, the more it earns. A wrong pin earns 0 km.
Finish all five
A perfect day is five gems and 500 km. Tomorrow you start again from your doorstep.
Scoring: the five tiers
Every right answer falls into one of five tiers. A wrong pin earns 0 km.
| Postcard | The answer everyone thinks of | 40 km |
|---|---|---|
| Detour | Well known, if you pause | 55 km |
| Sideroad | Fewer people get here | 70 km |
| Backroad | Only a few people go this way | 85 km |
| Gem | A rare and surprising find | 100 km |
The journey: how far you get in a day
Your daily distance decides where you end up. Every day starts again at your doorstep.
| Your Doorstep | 0 km |
|---|---|
| Around the Corner | 1-99 km |
| Out of Town | 100-199 km |
| Far Afield | 200-299 km |
| Back of Beyond | 300-399 km |
| Farflung | 400-500 km |
Tips for finding gems
Think past the first answer. The country that comes to mind first is usually a Postcard.
Remember the small places. Zoom in, because small countries and territories often make the best gems.
Weigh the risk. A rare guess that turns out wrong earns 0 km, while a safe Postcard still earns 40 km.
Streaks and the archive
Finish a day's expedition to keep your streak going. The archive has every past day, but archive runs don't count towards your streak or lifetime distance. Starting a past day shows one rewarded ad, unless you have Farflung Pro.
